though we are 7 years apart, you are the only person on this planet who will never have to second guess knowing who i am. you have been there every step of the way with me. in your younger years, our relationship was a bit rough, but i couldn't think of anyone else i would want to spend those times with. i love those moments where we bug out for no reason at all. and when mommy yells at us for being too loud (and we get louder). i love all of our dances and inside jokes that no one else understands, even when we explain. i love that we can look at each other, not mutter one word and understand everything completely. VOGUE DOWN, LITTLE TRANNY!!

we haven't been as close as i'd like us to be, but i love you as much as i would if we were that close. i've silently watched you grow over the years to be a foxy little mama. you are beautiful, intelligent, funny,talented, honest and one of the coolest people i know. i love when daddy is being over barring and we give each other the "look". i love that even though we don't see each other all of the time, when we are with each other, it's as though we have lived under the same roof for forever. trust me, little one, there will be more weekends, like this past one, to come (minus you and a'ja keeping me up until 5:30 laughing at absolutely NOTHING!) haha.

i tend not to find the things that i do interesting; they are just a part of who i am. nah mean? but i will make effort to list 15.

1. i play the drums.

2. i plan on mastering the bass by the end of 2011.

3. i am in no way repulsed by my own vomit.

4. i am somewhat enticed by physical pain.

5. lauren london is the only woman who has the ability to steal my heart.

6. i have the ability to brush things that people would normally get all worked up about off of my shoulders.

7. i had locks from the time i was 4 until i was 17.

8.i cut my locks and discovered that i had curly hair, but after a couple of months i decided i wanted straight hair, but i didn’t a perm. so, i just straightened my hair all of the time. when i got to college, i realized that i didn’t like my hair straight all of the time and in fact did like it curly, but by then my hair had been damaged by heat. so, in order to get it back to it’s original texture, i had to cut 75% of my hair off. and i have now fallen in love with this short haircut. (that should have been more than one, but there are more IMPORTANT things i can focus on.)

9. i think my grandmother is the greatest person to walk this planet, after JESUS.

10. i usually don’t close my eyes during kissing (i like to be aware of my surroundings).

11. a lot of people’s first impression of me is that i am mean and/or awkwardly quiet (which, to an extent, is true). in reality, however, i am usually just analyzing the people around me in such depth that i can decide on the spot how our future encounters will be (if there will ever be future encounters).

12. i watched the entire TRUE BLOOD series in a week and some change.

13. i say “wussup, SUN!” instead of “wussup, SON!” (and i make it very clear that the spelling/meaning is different.)

14. i make myself priority over others (not out of selfishness, but one cannot properly interact with others without being “iight” themselves).

15. i HATE cheese and mushrooms!

seems like i haven't had the time to blog, AT ALL, lately. so much so that i couldn't blog about my birthday, which was exactly 2 weeks ago.

because many people say 19 & 20 are boring years (b/c nothing really changes from 18) & i somewhat agree, i decided to make this one matter to me. i decided to do things (for myself) that i have been thinking about doing for a long time, but just never got the guts to. and, for the 1st time in a long time, i didn't really ask for any gifts (only a NIKON camera).

hair cut phase 1

hair cut phase 2 (& i got my nails done - ignore the colors. i must have been drunk when i told the man i wanted those colors).

i've been looking for something to do to my hair (b/c the whole curly fro/straight thing just wasn't cutting it for me). i decided on a cut, but i thought just a cut would bore me and it needed a little POP (for lack of a better word). with that being said, i went with the idea of dying it (light red). since my hair is already this awkward brown color, the light red came out as a brownish-orangish-red.

though i liked the cut & color, it didn't click in my head that my hair grows like its on steroids and that the color wold grow out and that i'd have to continuously cut (& dye if deemed necessary). but that was the case and a week later, i had to get my hair cut again (& the color is gone).

note to self: think before doing things like this! nevertheless, i still love it!

gifts to myself from others

this is all i asked for for my birthday (well, this & blue roses, but no one got those for me!). i told my grandmother this is what i wanted and she got it for me. i was (still am) the happiest person in the world to be able to walk around and take sexy fotoz with my sexy NIKON COOL PIX L110.

ok. there's a story behind this gift. around january, i was at my grandparents house, chillaxin in the kitchen and i noticed my grandfather had a G-SHOCK on the table. first, i was astonished because my 70-something year old grandfather had a G-SHOCK. second, i was shocked because it was a fairly dope watch. i told him that i had two fake ones (courtesy of canal st.) and that i wanted one. i talk about things that i would like to have ALL OF THE TIME and i didn't even think my family listened anymore. but the sunday after my birthday, my grandmother told me there was a gift from my grandfather in her office. i open it & this is what was there. it almost brought me to tears that he not only remembered, but cared enough to get it for me. :)

i first saw IN THE HEIGHTS, last year for my friend TIYA's birthday. i had loved LIN-MANUEL MIRANDA previous to that, but seeing him perform live made him seem more amazing, if possible. he raps (FREESTYLES - like REALLY freestyles. off the dome), he sings, composes, performs, he's funny and he even dances a little. he's GREAT!

anyways, at the 2008 TONY awards, when giving his acceptance speech (which he RAPPED), he began to freestyle and made reference to the great STEPHEN SONDHEIM: “Mr. Sondheim, look, I made a hat where there never was a hat, and it’s a Latin hat at that!” ... true broadway fans understand (look it up.)

life: PRINCE is in the air

so, i’m sitting at my desk trying to find a thesis for my last english essay when my friend JADELLE frantically called me, telling me that PRINCE (yes, PRINCE) was supposedly at the VILLAGE UNDERGROUND. i sat here in my jammies not knowing what to do; i thought that if i got dressed and went, i’d end up missing him and i didn’t want to do that. then, i find out that they livestream their performances online, so, JADELLE and i decided to watch that, instead. there were people singing. they were good, BUT it wasn’t PRINCE. so, i waited and waited - i was getting antsy. then, the people who were performing started talking to him about how he changed their life and things like that. i thought he would then get on stage, but he did. however, i had hope… people continued singing (but by now i wasn’t watching i was just listening) and a lady said “you should put your camera away and feel the music.” but when i was watching no one had a camera out. so, i went to see what she was talking about. i see a lot of cameras and flashes, but it didn’t dawn on me, until i see this shorter light-skinned man in the background playing a guitar… REALLY?! can it be?! yes. yes is was. the one and only PRINCE. i called JADELLE back hyperventilating to tell her he was on stage.

to make an already long story short, he played the guitar for about 10 minutes (the BEST 10 minutes of my life). now, i am highly upset with myself for not going. i could have made it. BUT i got to see PRINCE in real time on a livestream.

well, about last week i met this cool kid from ARKANSAS - ROY. and we ended up hanging out in the city. after going to THE NEW MUSEUM, ROY suggested we eat at this AMAZING felafel restaurant in the WEST VILLAGE. after eating some GREAT food, we stopped in a thrift store, then went and sat in WASHINGTON SQUARE PARK and watched a few performers and then walked over the WILLIAMSBURG BRIDGE.

i love the jacket: it's leopard print so it stands out and you can rock simple jeans a shirt with it, but it's camouflage so it's not too loud. great work young LADS!

it was another nice day in the city. so KAT and i took advantage and walked around (and ended up in soho, once again). we WILL venture elsewhere! i PROMISE. anyway, in search for this magical dress (that i DID find) we went into h&m, TOPSHOP, and american apparel (wasn't planning to buy anything from the last two, but i LOVE those stores so why not go for a look see?)

it was about 55 degrees in the city on this past monday. so, KATISHA and i decided to go roam the city. she opted the we eat at a "cute place" and how could i resist? we walked from PACE down LAFAYETTE into soho looking for somewhere to eat. we passed FLIGHT CLUB and knew we had to go in, but across the steet was this little cute cafe place. and the prices were REASONABLE!

we ordered and they gave us these little thangies to know our order (i guess).

i ordered a simple burger. looks like crap but tasted like HEAVEN.

we roamed a little more. i need a SPRINGY dress for some upcoming events (*vomit*) and KATISHA wanted some leggings. so, we went into joyce leslie.

i wasn't a huge an of this dress (hense me not getting it). but it was pretty darn cayute!

so, classes were canceled after 1pm because of the crazy snow. so, KATISHA thought we should go look at the dorms in BROOKLYN today. and even though i'm probably DEADLY ill, and don't want to acknowledge it, i agreed.

i have issues in my head and decided to wear my UGGS out in the snow. we got to BROOKLYN and were told we had to wait to hours for the tour. so, we walked down the block and somewhere in those 3 minutes, my UGGS were filled with water. fun, right? so, we had to come back to PACE so i could change and possibly NOT catch pneumonia.

my change in the warmer clothes (for the most part). check out my drenched UGGS next to the mirror.

we saw the dorms and they were fantastically AMAZING! i just may be living in BROOKLYN next school year!

so, i put my UGGS on the raidiator so they'd dry, and what happened?

i didn't keep up with all the things on my to do and not to do lists. yes, i'm a tad disappointed in myself. but after this DARN sickness is over I'M GOING IN!

life: LET IT GO!

along with the list of things that i am going to start doing, my friends and i are going to give up a few things for LENT (even though none of us are catholic). some of the things coincide with my previous list, but that's ok, i guess. also, i'm adding some more things onto the list of things to do.

what i'm going to do:

1.) walk around the city (for a least and hour) without money - i always end up spending money if i go places with it. so, i'll go places without it.

2.) work out two times a week - this goes along with the losing my lil pouch.

things i'm giving up:

1.) all beverages (except for water) - i think this will be good for my body (a little 40 day vacation from nastiness for mt hot bod. hehehe).

2.) musicorey - it'l be hard to give up my daily guilty pleasures, but KATISHA and i feel as though it'll be more to look forward to after 40 days.

i feel as though this post needs a fotograf, but i don't have one to put and i have class in 5 minutes.

i need to start making things habits of mine and i am DETERMINED to do them before this month is out.

here's the list:

1. lose my little stomach pouch -- when GRANDMA starts pointing things out, there is a problem.

2. eat healthier -- i'm definitely NOT trying to lose any weight. however, i think eating healthy is important for my older age.

3. STOP SHOPPING (unless at thrift store, or on anything less than 20$ on eBay) -- i think this one is self explanatory.

4. wear EVERYTHING in my closet before repeating outfits -- it's truly sad that with ALL the clothes in my closet, i resort to the black (or white t-shirt) with black leggings (or jeans), and that plaid shirt i'm always wearing in pictures.

5. same as #4 but for shoes -- YES!

6. watch less JUNK on tv -- really, i think i can live with just AMERICAN IDOL (and JONAS when i'm with my little sister).

7. read more -- i have an issue of starting books and NEVER finishing them. my uncle HASAN SALAAM gave me a really amazing book two years ago. i started it in december and haven't picked it up since (SMH.. i know).

8. stop procastinating -- i ALWAYS say i want to do this, but never do. i'm i am DETERMINED to not put everything off until the last mintue.

9. blog more --i never have time to blog because i'm usually doing homework that's due the next day or i need to sleep, which leaves me to my last task.

10. SLEEP!!! -- as you can see (since it's 4:00 am and i am still awake with a 10:10am class), i NEVER sleep. most college students don't, but i have to say I WIN this one..

well, i'm off to try to #1o now... i'll holla at y'all SOON (fa real doe!)

i personally don't celebrate this day; i think it's a waste of money and you should tell the one's you love them all the time and not just on this day. anyway, since people i love DO celebrate it, i'm unconsciously forced into celebrating it as well.

i spent the day in church with some of the people (things) i love most: GOD, my GRANDMA, and my DRUMSET.. what else could one ask for? before church, my g-ma out me and my sister's gift and card on the dresser, but i refused to open mine until i gave my grandma hers. i finally gave it to her and she was the cutest thing:) so, NOW i could open mine..

HAITI has needed our help for a long time, but know it's more serious than ever. people look at situations like this and have a kinda "oh, that's so sad!" emotion toward disasters like this, but don't/won't do anything to help. i have a couple friends who are spending their holiday break in HAITI w. their families and my little sister is half HAITIAN and has family down in HAITI. i've heard from one of my friends in HAITI, but haven't heard anything about my other friend or my sisters' fam. i'm definitely praying for HAITI. & praying that the people of AMERICA won't be selfish in a time like this and donate 10$, 5$, whatever you can do the EARTHQUAKE RELIEF.

while in school, my mom met a lot of intelligent, cool people. one of those people was HASAN SALAAM. overtime, we got closer and i got to know him and came to know that he is a great person.

my mom always has my sister and i call her friends "uncle" and "aunt" - out of respect - most of the time i do it because i have to, but there are a few that i can honestly say are true aunts and uncles to me. my uncle HASAN is one of them.

there were times when i felt like i had no one to talk to, but he was always there for me. i'm glad that i got to know him as my most favorite uncle in the whole wide "UNI"verse (hahaha). in this case biological relation doesnt even matter (besides, we look alike sometimes).

i was up at about 3 am reading The New York times online and i saw this article "Making College 'Relevant.'" i thought it was pretty interesting because i've been asked an infinite amount of times what my major is, and my response is always "nothing, yet." i've always thought too much emphasis was put on college students and what their majors are, and not for the reasons it should be, either. this graf from the article almost explains my point:

"In 1971, 37 percent responded that it was essential or very important to be “very well-off financially,” while 73 percent said the same about “developing a meaningful philosophy of life.” In 2009, the values were nearly reversed: 78 percent identified wealth as a goal, while 48 percent were after a meaningful philosophy."

over time, morals have obviously changed (statistics are not needed to prove that). but as far as college is concerned, choosing a major is now more based on how much money one will make at a job after college, and not on finding oneself and what they love to do.

as for me, i have an idea of what i want to do. it's a lot (since i'm trying to change the world and all), but as i have always said, I GOT THIS. when i do declare my major, it won't be for future money, or what is "right." but it'll be something that will assist me in my endeavors to change the world and something that i will enjoy.

this was back in the late 70's early 80's? anyway, he did it then (& did it now) & killed it always..

then in THIS IS IT, the world was exposed to the penguin dance, doing things with L.O.V.E., love, and most importantly the pointy shoulder pads (yes before ri-ri & ga-ga)

So. A month ago I purchased tickets to what I thought would be a great movie. My friend Kat and I were counting down the days until October 28, 2009, 7 p.m. And even today before our classes we were acting as though we were happy-go-lucky-four-year-old toddlers. We got to the movie theater an hour early and were greeted by dancing, eager Michael Jackson fans – all anticipating This Is It!

This Is It was more than a movie – it was an experience. I was able to gather with people – such as myself – who react the way that I do towards Michael. I was able to see him in preparation for something that would’ve ROCKED OUR WORLD. I was able to see him for all that he was: funny, warmhearted, unconditional caring for everyone and everything, and immeasurable talent.

I’m not a recommending-movie kind of person, but this is something that I’d recommend for EVERYONE (except for those children scared of THRILLER –i.e. my sister). It’s full of love, life, tears, and laughter (A LOT OF LAUGHTER!). It made me appreciate Michael even more than I did before.
